This book presents a collection of ngewa – fables and parables – from the Akamba of Kenya. Fables and parables are central in African culture. Indeed, communication would greatly suffer if there were no fables and parables. Most of those included in this collection are set in ancient times and a few are new because ngewa have continued to evolve and change with time to fit changing socio-cultural and economic circumstances. The themes and their profound messages however, remain stimulating to the mind and soul. They serve as constant encouragement and reminders of what the society expects of individuals.
